New Footage Challenges DHS Account of Minneapolis Shooting

A newly surfaced video of the fatal encounter between federal agents and 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti in Minneapolis directly contradicts official Department of Homeland Security claims. The footage, captured from a sidewalk vantage point, shows Pretti attempting to assist a bystander before being surrounded and killed by agents.

The video obtained by Drop Site News provides a clearer perspective than previously released footage from inside a nearby donut shop. It shows Pretti, dressed in a brown coat, filming the encounter with his phone and guiding a person toward the sidewalk as federal agents move to detain others. After being pepper-sprayed and tackled by a group of officers, Pretti appears to attempt to rise, at which point roughly 10 gunshots are fired.

The Department of Homeland Security previously alleged that Pretti had approached immigration officers with a weapon. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino later escalated this claim, asserting that the victim intended to "massacre" agents, though he failed to provide evidence or specify when any threat occurred. During a subsequent press conference, Bovino abruptly ended the session after refusing to answer questions regarding the timeline of the alleged threat.

Political figures have sharply criticized the official narrative. U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib labeled the agents "cowards," while Representative Jimmy Gomez accused the agency of attempting to cover up "cold-blooded murder." Journalist Susan Glasser noted that the video reveals Pretti’s final actions were an attempt to aid a woman being physically assaulted by agents, casting further doubt on the government's justification for lethal force.
