Knife-Wielding Man Arrested on Brooklyn Set of Miami Vice ’85

A late-night film shoot in Brooklyn turned volatile Friday when a man allegedly brandished a butcher knife at a production crew member. The confrontation, which halted work on the upcoming Miami Vice ’85 movie, led to the immediate arrest of a 23-year-old suspect by NYPD officers near Washington Cemetery.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Bay Parkway and McDonald Avenue. According to police, the suspect, identified as Alex Perez, disrupted the set before engaging a 43-year-old crew member. During the altercation, Perez reportedly pulled a large knife from his sweatshirt pocket. While the production features stars Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, authorities stated the threat was directed at staff, and there is no indication either actor was directly involved in the standoff.

Following the arrest, Perez was charged with second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Records indicate the suspect has a history of prior arrests involving assault and burglary. Though the production—directed by Joseph Kosinski—has been filming across New York and New Jersey to recreate the 1980s aesthetic, Friday’s events brought all activity to an abrupt standstill. No injuries were reported, and the NYPD successfully recovered the weapon during the apprehension.
