Ashley H. describes her six-month tenure in the Gosselin household as a stark contrast to the family’s televised image. She alleges that Kate Gosselin maintained a sterile, "unlived-in" home where children were restricted from playing freely and forced to wear the same outfits for days to minimize laundry. According to the former employee, this atmosphere extended to the children themselves, with Kate exhibiting a "robotic" demeanor and clear favoritism among her eight children.
Central to these allegations is the treatment of Collin Gosselin. Ashley claims she witnessed Kate grabbing the boy frequently and physically pulling him from his chair, characterizing the behavior as "downright evil." She recalls finding a large plastic spoon hidden among school supplies, which one of the sextuplets allegedly identified as the tool their mother used when she lost her temper. The testimony coincides with the release of Collin’s memoir, In the Shadow of Eight, in which he details being isolated in a basement and subjected to physical violence. Ashley confirms that she reported the family to Children and Youth Services during her time there, noting she was likely one of many to do so.
Kate Gosselin has consistently denied these allegations, attributing her son’s narrative to his history of mental health struggles. She maintains that his placement in a behavioral facility before age 12 was a medical necessity. However, these claims are disputed by Jon Gosselin, who cites independent evaluations that challenge the mother’s account. The family’s history is set to face further scrutiny in an upcoming Netflix documentary featuring Jon, Collin, and his sister Hannah.
