American Citizen Killed by Settlers in Occupied West Bank

Sayfollah Musallet, a 23-year-old American-Palestinian, died Friday after being beaten by Israeli settlers near the town of Sinjil. Family members and Palestinian officials report that the young man, who had been visiting relatives from his home in Florida, succumbed to his injuries after being denied timely medical access.

The incident occurred north of Ramallah, where Musallet was intercepted by settlers. Witness Abdul Samad Abdul Aziz stated that local residents were blocked from reaching the victim for four hours by the Israeli military. By the time they gained access, Musallet was already dying from his injuries. A second man, 23-year-old Mohammad Shalabi, was also reported killed by gunfire during the same period, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

While the Israeli army confirmed it is aware of the reports and has tasked the Shin Bet security service and local police with an investigation, no arrests have been made. Relatives described Musallet as a bright, gentle individual who helped manage his family's ice cream shop in Port Charlotte, Florida. His death marks at least the seventh American fatality in the region since October 7, 2023.

Edward Ahmed Mitchell, deputy director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, condemned the killing, characterizing it as part of a pattern of violence against American citizens that frequently goes unpunished. The killing coincides with rising political pressure within Israel to formally annex the West Bank, a move that contradicts recent findings from the International Court of Justice regarding the illegality of the occupation.
