Foot Locker adds AI-powered closet builder to mobile app

Foot Locker has introduced an AI-driven tool called Fits within its mobile application, allowing customers to curate outfits based on items they already own. Developed alongside styling technology firm Stylitics, the feature generates personalized recommendations and displays them on virtual models to streamline the shopping experience.

The new functionality encourages users to upload photos of their existing apparel, which the system then analyzes to suggest complementary pieces available at the retailer. Once the AI generates a complete look, shoppers can view the ensemble on a virtual mannequin and add items directly to their carts, reducing the friction typically associated with coordinating new purchases with an established wardrobe.

Michael Cera, interim head of product management and design at Foot Locker, noted that the initiative was born from direct customer feedback and a desire to integrate generative technology into the daily shopping journey. The project involved cross-functional collaboration between the company’s product, e-commerce, and design teams to ensure the final tool matched the initial design scope.
